The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrated its 86th Raising Day on 27th July 2024. This special day honors the significant and unmatched contributions of the force in safeguarding the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of our country. As India’s largest Central Armed Police Force, the CRPF operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The CRPF was originally constituted as the Crown Representative’s Police in 1939 and has a rich history. It is one of the oldest Central Para-military forces (now termed as Central Armed Police Force). The force was raised as a sequel to the political unrest and agitations in the then princely States of India following the Madras Resolution of the All-India Congress Committee in 1936. The CRPF’s primary duty at the time was to protect the British residents in sensitive states of India. In 1949, the CRP was renamed under the CRPF Act. During the 1960s, many state reserve police battalions were merged with the CRPF.
The CRPF has played a significant role in maintaining law and order in India. It has been deployed in various parts of the country, including the Kashmir Valley, the Northeast, and the Naxal-affected areas. The CRPF has also been involved in counter-insurgency operations and has played a key role in the fight against terrorism. The force has won numerous awards and accolades for its bravery and dedication. The CRPF is a highly professional force with a strong ethos of service and sacrifice, making it a vital part of the Indian security apparatus in maintaining the country’s internal security¹.
On this momentous occasion, the CRPF pays homage to its brave martyrs and reaffirms its unwavering dedication to protecting the nation. Various events are being organized to mark the day, including a grand parade, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honor the fallen heroes, and a noble blood donation camp. The 86th Raising Day of the CRPF is a testament to the force’s commitment and service in ensuring the safety and security of the nation and its citizens. The headquarters of the CRPF is located in the CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
As of today, the official theme for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Raising Day in 2024 has not yet been announced. However, the celebration remains a significant occasion to recognize the sacrifices and contributions of the CRPF personnel in safeguarding our nation¹.
